Sing we and Chant it - 400 years of Choral Music |
We are celebrating all that is good in Choral Music for this 'back in business' first post-Covid concert. The programme contains, amongst other things. Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs, Stanford Te Deum in B flat, Brahms How lovely are thy dwellings and Fauré Cantique de Jean Racine. This will be the first concert conducted by Ryton Chorale's new Director of Music, Simon Lumby.

Matthew Jordan, baritone, who is the son of a singing teacher and a geographer and has enjoyed singing amongst other musical pursuits from a young age. Past solo performances include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bach’s Magnificat in G, Vaughan Williams’s Mystical Songs, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Stainer’s Crucifixion, Handel’s Messiah, etc. Matthew is currently learning cantatas by J. S. Bach and recently studied under Nicki Kennedy (Soprano) in Repton. Matthew has sung with various ensembles including Mansfield Choral Society, Newark Choral Society, Burton Joyce Choral Society, the University of Nottingham’s chamber choir Viva Voce, St Barnabas Cathedral choir in Nottingham, Southwell Minster, Mercia Chorale, and St Mary’s Church choir in Newark.
Previous musical roles include Jesus from Godspell and Fred from Kiss me Kate. Matthew, an Old Worksopian and a University of Nottingham graduate, is a pharmacist and singer who lives in rural Nottinghamshire with his wife Melanie, a fellow singer, and their pets Martha, Sooty, and Gonzo – plus of course their 2 boys Eric, 6, and Roy, 2. |
Michael Wynne, organist, has gained a wide reputation for his engaging and inspiring performances and has travelled widely giving concerts in the UK and abroad. Recent and future engagements include St. Paul’s Cathedral, London; The Temple Church, London; Westminster Cathedral; Lincoln Cathedral; Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral; St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh; Sheffield Cathedral; St. Ouen, Rouen; Notre Dame de Paris; The American Cathedral, Paris; Saint Maria delle Grazie Church, Anghiari; and Peterskirche, Wien.
Michael studied Organ with Ian Tracey, Susan Landale, David Titterington and Patrick Russill; Improvisation with David Briggs and Olivier Latry; and conducting with Fraser Goulding and Vernon Handley. He has taken part in masterclasses with Jacques van Oortmerssen, Gillian Wier, Naji Hakim, Daniel Roth. As a Conductor and Vocal Coach, Michael has recently worked on Dido and Æneas, Purcell, Tosca, La bohème, La fanciulla del West, Puccini, L’Elisir d’Amore, Donizetti, Il Trovatore, Verdi, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Rossini, and Le nozze di Figaro, Mozart. He is in demand as a Choral Director and Animateur and frequently directs Oratorio and other Choral works. He is a keen exponent of Baroque and early music, is a frequent continuo player and also regularly performs new compositions. From 2003 to 2018, Michael was Director of Music at St Mary's Shrine in Warrington. He is currently organist to the University of Lancaster, and records frequently with BBC radio, television and GMR, as well as pursuing a busy solo career and private teaching practice. |
